I say that any uncertainty of the drink being poisoned would have been warranted.

It wasn’t the focused idea when he was a kid, but for his entire adult life. As a teen would’ve been where that became a want for his life. Same as the want to be with and marry someone he loved. Basically as a teen would’ve been when he put together an ideal life in his mind, everything he wanted to have one day. His hopes and dreams.
